Dhawani Chugh, The Many Versions of Her

Dhawani Chugh, The Many Versions of Her

Fashion has never been about following a formula for Dhawani Chugh. It has always been about feeling. She chooses clothes according to the woman she wants to become in a particular moment, drawn to the pieces that make her feel confident, powerful, playful, or almost like she has stepped into an alter ego. Trends may come and go, but that instinct remains constant. Her personal style has developed through an ongoing conversation with herself, a question she continues to ask each time she gets dressed: who do I want to be today?

That intuitive approach extends naturally into her creative world. Dhawani finds inspiration everywhere, often through Pinterest and the visual language surrounding her, but she does not believe creativity can always be strategically planned. Some of her favourite ideas arrive without warning, fully formed and impossible to force. She has also discovered that her clearest creative moments often come when her mind is clear. Journaling, meditation, and simply taking care of herself mentally have become part of her creative process, allowing ideas to arrive with greater ease. For her, some of the best concepts are not chased at all. They simply appear.

Her relationship with content creation began long before it became a career. At thirteen, while living in India, Dhawani found herself feeling somewhat out of place within the structured environment of school. She was creative, outspoken, and always had something to say. Watching YouTubers create spaces where they could express themselves freely opened up another possibility. She wanted that freedom for herself. So she took her mother’s phone and began filming, creating her first YouTube channel, Miss Chiefs.

The journey was not immediately linear. For years, her relationship with content moved between periods of creating and stepping away, but the desire never disappeared. Deep down, she had always been drawn towards entertainment and the idea of being in the spotlight. The turning point arrived around 2022, when she had moved out, begun living more independently, and watched one of her videos reach a million views. She took it as a sign. From that moment, she made herself a promise to post every day, transforming a childhood dream she had repeatedly returned to into something she was finally determined to build her life around.

Today, that same sense of self determination shapes the way she approaches fashion and self expression. Dhawani does not see fashion as a fixed identity. Instead, she sees it as a wardrobe of possibilities. One day she might want to feel sexy, another day powerful, masculine, dramatic, or completely over the top. Fashion gives her permission to explore all of these sides without needing to choose just one.

There is something almost theatrical in the way she approaches getting dressed. She wants her energy to arrive before her words do, to walk into a room already feeling confident in her own skin. Clothing becomes a form of transformation, a way of embodying the energy she needs for whatever awaits her. A suit can help her feel stronger before an important meeting, while Indian clothing allows her to honour her cultural identity and proudly represent where she comes from. For Dhawani, fashion is not about being defined by an aesthetic. It is about having the freedom to move between identities while remaining completely herself.

Her recent move to Toronto has introduced another layer to that exploration. One of the things she loves most about the city is its diversity, the sheer range of cultures, personalities, and ways of expressing individuality. Toronto offers a certain freedom to dress unconventionally without feeling watched or questioned, and that environment has encouraged Dhawani to push her self expression further. She is also discovering a new relationship with colder weather fashion, challenging herself to move beyond simply reaching for a puffer jacket and developing a more considered fall and winter wardrobe.

Creatively, however, she sees the city as something she is still discovering. She did not arrive in Toronto intending to reinvent herself. She brought her creative instincts with her, and believes that whatever influence the city eventually has on her work will happen naturally. As she begins attending fashion events and becoming more familiar with its creative community, she is allowing the relationship between herself and the city to develop organically.

Her approach to social media is similarly instinctive. In a digital landscape where trends can change almost overnight, Dhawani admits that there are moments when she simply wants to make her videos in peace. She does not consider herself someone who follows every trending sound or format. Instead, she is more interested in the conversations taking place around her. What people are discussing, thinking about, and responding to becomes more compelling to her than simply recreating what everyone else is already doing.

That instinct also informs the brands she chooses to work with. Genuine interest is essential. When she truly likes a product or believes in a brand, she finds herself becoming more creative naturally. Creative freedom matters just as much. Dhawani knows that her strongest work comes from authenticity, and she is unwilling to sacrifice the quality or honesty of her work simply for a paycheck. She would rather collaborate with brands she genuinely connects with and create something exciting than force herself into a brief that does not feel like her.

Perhaps the most emotional milestone of her career is also one of the most personal. Receiving her YouTube Silver Play Button after reaching one hundred thousand subscribers brought her journey back to where it began. YouTube was the first platform she ever posted on, eight years earlier, when she was thirteen and creating videos that might receive only a handful of views. After stepping away from the platform for years, returning and eventually reaching that milestone felt profoundly full circle.

She has achieved larger numbers elsewhere, but the plaque carries a different kind of meaning. She looks at it every day and imagines what her thirteen year old self would have thought if she could see the future. That younger girl, who simply picked up her mother’s phone and started filming, could never have known where the instinct to create would lead. The milestone reminds Dhawani not only of how far she has come, but of the girl who believed enough to begin.

Her philosophy around creativity is remarkably simple: action comes before inspiration. She does not wait for the perfect idea or the perfect mood to create. Instead, she makes something, even when she does not feel particularly inspired. The act of creating generates more ideas, and those ideas eventually lead her back into a natural creative flow. She has learned that consistency does not merely build an audience. It can build inspiration itself.

For emerging creators, that belief becomes perhaps her most important piece of advice. There is no secret formula, no requirement to fit a particular aesthetic, and no obligation to define yourself within a narrow niche. What matters is finding something you genuinely enjoy creating and continuing to make it. Through repetition comes discovery, and through discovery comes a strategy that feels personal rather than manufactured. Sometimes, she believes, having no niche can become a niche of its own.

Now, as Dhawani looks towards what comes next, her ambitions extend beyond the digital world that first gave her a platform. Acting and the film industry have always held a special place in her imagination. Although fashion and content have become major parts of her professional identity, acting was her first love within entertainment, a passion she has never truly lost. After years of focusing elsewhere, she feels ready to explore that side of herself again.

More than anything, she is excited by the possibility of becoming more than one thing. She is grateful for the platform she has built, but she does not want it to become a boundary. There are still countless versions of herself she has yet to discover, and that unknown is what makes the future feel so exciting.

Dhawani Chugh represents a generation of creators who understand that personal style is not necessarily about finding one identity and holding onto it forever. Sometimes it is about giving yourself permission to evolve. To be glamorous one day and understated the next, to honour your roots while discovering new surroundings, to create without waiting for permission, and to step beyond the world that first made you visible. Her story is ultimately about possibility, the possibility of becoming many things without losing the person at the centre of them all.
